Lazeez Shawarma Gives $100,000 to Keep Every Window Full of Kindness

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO, CANADA, August 27, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — It’s a little after two on a hot Tuesday afternoon, and the lunch rush has thinned out. A man steps in off the sidewalk and stands at the window a moment longer than most people do — the one filled with small handwritten cards. He isn’t reading the menu. He’s reading the cards.

He’s counted his change twice on the walk over, and it isn’t enough. But every card in that window is a meal somebody already paid for, left for whoever needs it. He takes one down, the way you’d take a coat off a hook, and hands it to the person at the counter. No form. No questions. A few minutes later he’s sitting down to a hot, freshly made meal — his first of the day — and nobody in the room knows his story, because nobody needs to.

That quiet exchange happens in Lazeez Shawarma restaurants more often than most people would guess. As of today, the company is making sure it never stops.

Lazeez Shawarma confirmed it is making its Pay It Forward program permanent and year-round across all 70+ of its restaurants in Ontario — and donating $100,000 of its own money to keep those windows full when the community’s generosity needs a hand.

Pay It Forward started small and seasonal. A guest paying for their own meal would quietly buy one more — a regular Kindness On The Rocks, chicken or falafel — and leave it behind on a card in the window for whoever came next. Someone would take it down. No one ever saw the whole exchange. That was always the point.

The trouble was, the windows kept telling a story the staff couldn’t walk away from.
“The thing that gets me is the line where you sign it,” said Kehkashan Khan, Director of Corporate Relations at Lazeez Shawarma. “People put real thought into that line. We’ve had cards signed in memory of somebody’s late father. We’ve had kids sign them in crayon. It’s the smallest piece of paper in the store, and people treat it like it matters — because to somebody, it will.”

“And then it comes down off the window, and we never find out who needed it. Nobody has to announce themselves. You’re not a case. You’re not a hard-luck story. You’re just a person having lunch.”

Making it permanent, the company said, was never really a debate.

“Hunger doesn’t take the summer off. It felt strange that our answer to it would. So we stopped treating this like a campaign and started treating it like a promise.”

To stand behind that promise, Lazeez is donating $100,000 of its own — enough to keep cards in every window even in the quiet stretches, on top of the meals its guests pay forward at the counter every day.
