Appointments broaden VisionMed’s clinical expertise in two highly visual, image-guided specialties as the company advances EMMA® across procedural medicine
NASHVILLE, TN, UNITED STATES, August 27, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — VisionMed, developer of the EMMA® video intelligence platform for procedural medicine, today announced the appointments of Omar Shakir, MD, MBA, and Omar Choudhri, MD, MHCI, FACS, FAANS, to its Medical Advisory Board.
The appointments expand VisionMed’s clinical expertise in two specialties in which video, imaging and other visual data play a central role in procedural care. Dr. Shakir will advise the company on ophthalmology and ophthalmic imaging, while Dr. Choudhri will advise on cerebrovascular, endovascular and skull-base neurosurgery.
“Although ophthalmology and neurovascular surgery are very different specialties, they share an important characteristic for EMMA: both generate large volumes of high-value visual information,” said David MacLean, CEO of VisionMed. “Our goal is to transform that information from something clinicians primarily view and store into structured, usable data that can support documentation, procedural analysis, education, quality improvement and research.”
Omar Shakir, MD, MBA — Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Imaging
Dr. Shakir is the founder of Coastal Eye in Greenwich, Connecticut, and specializes in cataract and vitreoretinal surgery. He also serves as a Clinical Instructor at Yale University and as a principal investigator on multiple Phase 2, 3 and 4 clinical trials.
Dr. Shakir completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Florida and a two-year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Yale University.
His experience across both anterior- and posterior-segment ophthalmology will help guide VisionMed’s development and evaluation of EMMA for ophthalmic surgical and diagnostic workflows, including applications involving surgical video, ophthalmic imaging, structured documentation, longitudinal analysis, education and clinical research.

Omar Choudhri, MD, MHCI, FACS, FAANS — Neurovascular and Image-Guided Neurosurgery
Dr. Choudhri is a neurosurgeon specializing in cerebrovascular, endovascular and skull-base surgery who recently joined the University of Chicago Department of Neurological Surgery, where he serves as Director of Innovation. His clinical expertise encompasses complex neurovascular disease, stroke, cerebrovascular malformations and skull-base tumors.
At VisionMed, Dr. Choudhri will advise on the development and application of EMMA across neurosurgical and neurointerventional workflows, including procedural documentation, workflow analysis, education, quality improvement and clinical research.
His combination of expertise in open microsurgery, endovascular procedures, academic neurosurgery and clinical innovation will provide important guidance as VisionMed expands EMMA into some of the most complex image- and video-intensive areas of procedural medicine.
“Neurovascular and skull-base procedures depend on multiple streams of complex visual information, from surgical microscopy to angiography and other image-guided technologies,” said Dr. Choudhri. “There is significant opportunity to make that information more structured, searchable and useful after the procedure—for clinical documentation as well as research, training and procedural understanding.”
